Updates about the 2009 Print Exhibition

At the meeting of the Print Section, held on 9 February 2009, the following decisions were taken with regard to the 2009 Print Exhibition in the Bensusan Photographic Museum located within Museum Africa, Mary Fitzgerald Square, Newtown, Johannesburg:

1.    Guidelines and Entry Form

The exhibition guidelines circulated in the February edition of The Viewfinder (emailed on 31 January) were confirmed subject to one major amendment, namely that every CCJ member who has been a print worker be guaranteed at least two spaces in the exhibition provided that he or she submits entries before the cut-off or deadline of 16 March 2009.

An updated copy of the guidelines, including various minor amendments and the correction of the previously incorrect measurement for the A3 prints required, is attached to this email.

Also attached is the “Exhibition Entry Form” to be submitted together with entries, which caters for information required to prepare a catalogue, labels and publicity.

2.    Opening

An opening ceremony, with snacks and drinks will be arranged at the exhibition site on Tuesday evening, 12 May 2009.

3.    Selection Committee

The following print members were elected to serve on the “Selection Committee” which has been charged with selecting the most outstanding prints for the exhibition: Dan Swart, Dennis Arden, Lou Yudelman, Mike Feldman and Sig Hannig.

4.    Entries

Entries, as specified in the attached guidelines, may be submitted to Sig Hannig at any of the regular meetings of the CCJ, e.g. on Monday, 16 February, or by email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it in the form of files not exceeding 500 kilobytes.

All entries should be accompanied by the duly completed “Exhibition Entry Form” attached to this email.

5.    One of our members, Des Steenkamp, has kindly agreed to mount and frame prints according to the specifications required for the exhibition, at cost price -- estimated in the region of R90 to R100 per picture, on the assumption that the participants jointly will order a total of no less than 60 frames from him.
